If you live in a rental building or are simply reluctant to drill holes in your walls for a shelf, 3M Command™ Damage-Free Hanging Picture Ledge is your best friend.

3M advertises that its Command™ products are easy to hang and require no tools. And yes, even a college student like myself living in a rental apartment with no tools can install it in a snap. No screws or nails are required! The instructions are super easy to follow, and as long as you follow the directions carefully, the ledge won’t fall on you.

The Picture Ledge is available in 2 colors, Slate (dark gray) and Quarts (pure white).
Depending on the product, the maximum weight capacity varies from 1lb to 8lbs. The Picture Ledge holds up to 5lbs, which is about the same as a bag of potatoes.

The shelf comes with an extra set of Command™ strips (10 strips in total) in case you mess up or need to relocate the shelf in the future. And of course, you can get extra strips separately if you need to. The ledge takes 5 medium-sized Command™ Bath strips.
The strips are kinda hidden in the packaging, so don’t cut the cardboard box with scissors!

Just make sure to measure the dimensions, if you intend to put wider things on the shelf. It is intended for picture frames, so it’s much shallower than regular floating shelves. I bought it to hold a room spray and keys by the entrance, so it was perfect for me. But if you intend to store other items, make sure to check the dimensions, especially the depth.

It provides a great extra shelving space in tight spaces like entryways without drilling holes. 3M Command™ products should be on every college student’s dorm room (or apartment) check list.
