Our dogs are doing great on Acana!
We originally fed our dogs Orijen, arguably the most nutritious and therefore best dry dog food in the market. We quickly learned, however, that the protein content on Orijen was way too high for our dogs’ lifestyle – semi-active middle-aged dogs with daily walks (but nothing rigorous like running or sprinting). We then switched to Acana, which is also manufactured by Champion Pet Foods (makers of Orijen) but with lower protein content, and we couldn’t be happier. Our dogs are active and responsive with shiny coats (although I mix in some salmon oil to help).

Acana has multiple food groups and flavors to choose from. Even if your dog has any known allergies to certain ingredients like grain or chicken, you’re going to find a food that suits your dog’s dietary needs with Acana.

My dogs LOVE the Appalachian Ranch Grain-Free Dog Food. If your dog loves red meat, he/she is going to love the Appalachian Ranch. Loaded with ranch-raised beef, Yorkshire pork, grass-fed lamb, plains bison, and freshwater catfish, the Appalachian Ranch delivers ample nutrition and rich flavor. The food is made of 70% animal ingredients and free of grains or gluten since dogs are naturally carnivores.

Another reason I favor Champion Pet Foods is that the foods are processed and manufactured in Kentucky, USA. I can never trust dog food manufactured in China, and it’s good to support an American business.

You can find the daily ration and feeding guide on the food’s packaging, but it’s simply a “guideline”, suggesting recommended ration per weight. I give my dogs far less food than the recommended amount because they seemed to be gaining weight when I fed them the recommended ration. But every dog is different, so it’s up to his or her dietary needs.
