Although not many people wear watches anymore (unless used as fashion accessories), wall clocks seem to be getting a steady demand. After all, you’ll want to tell the time with a quick glance at home without having to ask Alexa.

I’ve looked at many wall clocks, and none really appealed to me. I wanted a transitional clock that has both modern and traditional appeal. And I saw the Firenze Wall Clock by Alessi, and it was love at first sight. Designed in 1965, its timeless design has a cult-like following even today.

Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (designers for FLOS), the clock comes in 5 colors: Black, Gray, Light Blue, White and Red, and White.

I debated between the White and Gray but ultimately went with the Gray. And I’m so glad that I did! It looks amazing on my kitchen hood, and it is a perfect size.

The clock pulls all my stainless steel kitchen appliances together and gives a more cohesive look, in my opinion. The roman numerals are the perfect traditional touch I was looking for, and the gray dial keeps the clock from looking too traditional – just the right amount of modern flair.

Another reason I chose the Firenze is the weight of the clock. It is surprisingly lightweight and can be hung with a 3M command hook. Since I didn’t want to drill a hole in the kitchen cabinetry, the clock couldn’t be too heavy. The clock is made of ABS plastic, and for its size (13.75” diameter), it weighs close to nothing (about half a pound).

It features a Quartz movement and uses one AA battery that is included. Because my house has an open floor plan, the clock on the kitchen hood is visible from the family room, dining room, and of course, kitchen. And because the clock is made of ABS plastic, I can just wipe it clean whenever it gets greasy from cooking below.
