Investing in quality bedding should not be overlooked. I know it’s cliché, but we spend about one-third of our lives in bed, and a good night’s sleep can change one’s life. Am I going too far? Maybe, but how well I sleep that night dictates my productivity the next day. So for me, good, a clean sheet is my linen closet essential.

I used to go crazy for higher thread counts. There must be a reason sheets with higher TC are more expensive, right? Yes, if done right, higher TC sheets are softer, silkier, and thicker. But, those sheets are also heavier and tend to make me feel stuffy in summer. Whenever I was using higher TC sheets (mine was 1000 TC), I felt like the heat was trapped in the sheets and made me sweat more. So, if you have the budget to indulge in luxurious higher TC sheets and prefer the thicker fabric, go for it. But if you’re looking for decent-quality sheets that are under $100, read on.

I heard about Brooklinen from a friend, and she was raving about the new sheets she got. I sat on her bed, and it was surprisingly soft and of high quality. The bed felt clean and smooth. I went ahead and immediately purchased a sheet for myself.

I really liked Brooklinen because there was an option to buy a fitted sheet only.
I know there is a huge divide and never-ending debate going on about not having a top sheet. Well, I’m against top sheets, and I was frustrated that sheets always came in sets (fitted sheet, top sheet, and 2 pillowcases). Buying only a fitted sheet drops the price as well, so all in all, I‘ve had high expectations.

Even with the order of one fitted sheet, Brooklinen sent all these fun freebies - a sample of laundry detergent from the Laundress New York, a good quality tote bag, and some promotional stickers.

I love this tote bag.

I got the Brooklinen Luxe Fitted Sheet in Solid White.

My friend had the Classic Sheet that is woven from 100% long-staple cotton. I went with the Luxe so I could compare the two. The main differences between the Classic and Luxe are thread counts and weave.
Luxe:
480 TC in a sateen weave
$74 for a queen
Classic:
270 TC in a percale weave
$59

Both feature elastic around the sheet for a tight fit, and their deep pockets comfortably fit thicker mattresses up to 15” deep. I have a 12” mattress, and the sheet still has a wiggle room, so I’m sure the sheet will easily cover the 15” ones.

The sheet has inner labels that indicate which side it goes to – short or long. Having labels is a convenient feature, but considering how most fitted sheets now come with those labels, it’s more of an expected must than a perk. Still, you’ll miss it when you don’t have it.

I was able to tell the difference between the Classic and Luxe because they felt quite different to the touch. The Classic sheet is cool and crisp, whereas the Luxe has a more satiny feel. I liked the Luxe better because I still like the silky feel of the sheets with higher TC. The Luxe also didn’t feel as heavy and thick as my 1000TC sheet. It was so soft and silky, yet I didn’t experience that feeling of heat getting trapped.
The sheets wash well. I’ve already washed mine multiple times, and it hasn’t shrunk or lost its shape.
Both sheets are excellent, and Brooklinen’s pricing is reasonable for the quality it’s selling. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to bedding. Some like it crisp and airy, and some prefer a silkier, more grounded feeling. Whichever you’re into, I think you’ll like Brooklinen’s sheets.
