Does Your Dog Have Irritated skin? The Right Shampoo Solves It!

My dog suffers from chronic dryness and flakiness that tends to flare up whenever the weather gets colder and dryer (lots of redness and itchiness). I can’t apply moisturizers on my dog’s skin (or coat) like I would do when my skin’s dry, so I was lost. I added salmon oil to help with the coat and skin, but it didn’t result in immediate, noticeable improvements. I bought Burt’s Bees Oatmeal Dog Shampoo which was supposed to help with irritated skin, and I decided to give it a go.

I love Burt’s Bees products for humans, and I was excited to try its dog shampoos. By the way, Burt’s Bees makes the best lip balms, hands down.

This dog shampoo - WOW!

I was so pleasantly surprised at how effective it was to calm and soothe the redness of my dog’s skin. I massaged his skin for good 10 minutes, and he really seemed to enjoy his bath. I know some dogs absolutely detest baths, but I’m blessed with a dog that enjoys them.

Burt’s Bees shampoo is very gentle and doesn’t irritate my dog’s sensitive skin. And it has an agreeable price tag – around $5 for 16 ounces. I can usually tell if the shampoo’s good or not after giving my dog a bath because he tends to itch instantly if the shampoo’s not right. It’s been several washes, and my dog is comfortable.

The shampoo has a subtle, faint oatmeal scent but quickly disappears when rinsed. I don’t like heavily scented pet products because animals are much sensitive to artificial fragrances, and I’m sure they’re not that pleasant.

I still feed salmon oil and quality food to my dog and try to minimize walking through the grass to keep the irritation at bay. But whenever my dog looks itchy and is scratching constantly, I now draw him a bath. Happy dog approved!

Besides the Oatmeal shampoo, there are multiple shampoo varieties to target certain skin concerns or cleaning needs. All dogs are different just like people, so some may suffer from itching, odor, hot spots, allergens, or skin irritation. Burt’s Bee’s got a shampoo for all of that.

A calming shampoo with lavender & green tea smells amazing!

You can find Burt’s Bees shampoos at various offline retailers like Target, Walmart, or Petco, unlike some smaller brands that are usually only available online. I like to get all my shopping done when I’m running errands, including pet products.

Do your dog a favor and get Burt’s Bees shampoo. My dog won’t be without it.
