I love Chilewich products. I first saw the placemats at Bloomingdale’s, and I was intrigued by their carefree maintenance and fun, modern colors. We invest in quality dining tables, and so frequently the delicate surfaces get overlooked. I always put placemats no matter where I eat, and the Mini Basketweave placemats from Chilewich have been my go-to placemats. They are so easy to care for and give a table an upscale feel.
Chilewich placemats go well with most dining table styles. They are a bit too modern for ornate traditional and French styles, but other than that, they agree well with tables made of various materials.
There are 2 Basketweave varieties – Basketweave and Mini Basketweave.
Each variety has different color options, and the Mini has more tightly weaved fabric. The Basketweave placemats have many noticeable weaves that can look a little bit too casual. I liked them both, but ultimately I bought the Mini because of the color. I was looking for some springy color that can give the table setting a vibrant, fresh pop. And the Mini comes in Turquoise!
The placemats look great against my light wood table, and they go well with the dining chairs.
Unlike many placemats that are difficult to care for, the Chilewich mats are the easiest when it comes to after-meal cleanup. I just need to wipe the mat down with a damp cloth, and none has stained thus far. They are not dishwasher/washing machine safe; however, most food scraps come off easily.
Each mat is generously sized to comfortably hold the entire place setting and glasses.
