I was getting tired of having to constantly replace moldy bath rugs.

Plush, high-piled, cotton rugs are so soft to the touch, but they don’t dry well and eventually lose the initial softness after numerous washes. And if you share a shower with other people, bath rugs stay damp for a long time. I’ve switched to the Shag Indoor/Outdoor Mat from Chilewich, and I’m wondering why I haven’t bought this soon enough.

I found these mats from Crate and Barrel, my go-to store for various kitchen tools and home furnishing pieces. These mats are hidden in the corner of my local store near the bath and bedding department. Many people use the Chilewich Shag mat as doormats or kitchen floor mats. And I, too, plan to use another for my kitchen because it’s so durable.

These mats are intended to be used both indoors and outdoors because they are mold, mildew, and chlorine resistant.

The vinyl backing grips onto any hard floors and prevents water from seeping through.

If the floor gets overly wet, water eventually seeps through, of course; however, it blocks water much better than cotton rugs.

Although the loops look sharp and coarse, they are surprisingly not uncomfortable under feet. They are not as soft as cotton rugs, but they provide a decent amount of cushion and comfort.

I bought several mats immediately so I could put them in front of the mudroom, front door, kitchen sink, and bathroom. It’s quick drying and non-slip, making it an ideal and safe choice for heavy-traffic areas.

Cleaning the Shag mats is relatively easy. It’s not as simple as tossing it in a washer; however, I don’t need to clean it as often as cotton rugs. I simply vacuum the mat in between regular “deep cleaning” with water.

The best mats!
