When it comes to rainy days with little kids, having the right pair of rain boots can make all the difference between a miserable outing and a full-on adventure. After a lot of research (and honestly, some trial and error with cheaper boots), I decided to pick up the Hunter Kids First Classic Rain Boots for my son. They were worth every penny after seeing them in action on a very wet, puddle-filled day.

Sizing Guide: What You Should Know

If you're shopping for these boots, sizing is really important to get right. Hunter recommends sizing up if your child is between sizes or if you plan to have them wear thicker socks underneath.

I decided to size up, and I’m so glad I did. The boots fit with a little extra room to grow, and he was able to comfortably wear thicker socks without feeling squeezed. Plus, the slightly roomier fit made it easier for him to pull them on and off — a huge bonus for a busy toddler who hates sitting still.

Real-World Test: Running Wild in the Rain

We had the perfect opportunity to test these boots during a particularly rainy afternoon. Picture slick sidewalks, huge puddles, and a very energetic little boy determined to jump into every single one.

The Hunter Kids First Classic Rain Boots handled everything beautifully. My son ran full speed through the streets, splashing into puddles without slipping once.

The boots have a grippy, flexible sole that really gave him traction, even on wet surfaces. They’re also noticeably lighter than some other rain boots we’ve tried, which meant he didn’t tire out from wearing them during a long walk.

Another thing I appreciated is that the cut of these boots is slightly lower than Hunter’s Original Tall boots. It’s a smart design choice for toddlers and young kids, allowing for more freedom of movement without feeling stiff or restricted around the calves.

Here are the care instructions.

Final Thoughts: Are They Worth It?

In short: Absolutely.

The Hunter Kids First Classic Rain Boots check all the boxes for what you want in a kids' rain boot — they’re waterproof, durable, lightweight, easy for little ones to put on by themselves, and stylish enough that even adults stop and compliment them.

The packaging is so nice, too.

If you're thinking about getting a pair, just remember: size up if you want a more comfortable fit and a little extra growing room. After seeing how much fun my son had splashing through puddles with dry feet and a huge grin on his face, I’m already planning to buy the next size up when he outgrows these.

And possibly in a different, more fun color and pattern!
