I have a Miele built-in coffee machine, and these coffee beans from Illy are the only beans I use. Miele’s very specific about the type of beans its machine can use, so I had to do a fair amount of research to find the quality beans I could use. Miele’s coffee machine specifically prohibits you from using oily beans and flavored beans. I’m going to say most Starbucks beans are not safe to use as they’re super oily. Freshly-ground coffee beans are usually matte in finish, so if you have local roasters, give their beans a try. I personally love illy beans, and they make awesome espressos and coffees in my Miele machine.

As you can tell, I always buy them in bulk because my family goes through these coffees so quickly, ha. I’ve tried Peet’s and Blue Bottle, but both my husband and I prefer Illy. Personally, Blue Bottle beans are too acidic for my liking.

All Illy coffees come in this signature tin case, and each can contains 8.8 oz whole or ground coffee beans. I love, love, love the way Illy packages its beans. These tin cases are pressurized for freshness to keep the coffee aromas contained. You’ll have to open the can as you’d open canned goods, and opening a new can of coffee is such a pleasant experience.

You can also select the roast level from blond to dark, like most coffee companies. Blond beans tend to taste more acidic, so I almost always buy a medium and dark roast.

For this shipment, I purchased a new coffee variety – Guatemala from Illy’s Arabica Selection. These bins are online exclusive, and you can choose from 5 taste varieties.

The varieties include Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Guatemala, and Brazil. Guatemala coffee beans boast noticeable chocolate notes and are darker roast than other varieties.

I could detect a strong chocolatey aroma when I opened the can. Heavenly!

I was surprised to find out that Arabica Selection beans are priced the same as Illy’s Classic lineup since most single-origin coffee beans command higher price tags. Not that I’m complaining!

The beans are perfectly matte and well-preserved in this tin case.

And you see minimal oil when the can is emptied. Love these beans, and I cannot recommend these enough for Miele coffee machines. They’re better than the beans Miele sells.
