It’s difficult to find small animal water bottles that don’t fail on you. One of the older bottles I bought was defective and didn’t dispense water. That nearly killed my guinea pig, so finding a bottle that is reliable and actually works was a top priority.
I really like this water bottle from Kaytee.
The dripper doesn't water while keeping it from leaking and flooding the cage.
The water bottle includes the glass bottle, stainless steel sipper, floating duck (for a friendly refill reminder – shows the water level), spring attachment, and wire hanger for mounting.
I was able to securely mount the water bottle using only the spring attachment.
Removing/putting back the bottle in between the refills is easy; I just slide the bottle in and out without taking out the spring attachment.
The water bottle is made of glass, and the sipper is of stainless steel.
Kaytee also makes it in plastic, but I never buy that because glass bottles are much easier to clean and longer lasting in the long run. And of course, glass is 100% chew proof.
The 12 oz bottle is ideal for 1 guinea pig, a dwarf rabbit, or a chinchilla, and I refill the bottle every 3-4 days. It will be too small for larger rabbits.
I use the bottle cleaning brush to scrub the inside of the bottle and sipper every time I refill the bottle, and they haven’t developed any weird smell or anything yet.
The “refill reminder” is a cute thought, but I don't use it personally because I worry the plastic will cause bacteria growth.
I recommend this bottle to any small animal owners.
