The Aeroccino is a must-have tool if you are a big latte person. If you already own a Nespresso machine or are thinking about getting one, I strongly suggest you get an Aeroccino. It beats any other milk frothers out there. Still, it has a few drawbacks and I thought I’d lay out the pros and cons of the Aeroccino. Personally, I think the pros far outweigh the cons, so I still recommend it for latte lovers.

Pros

Quiet and fast

I’ve been a long-time user of Breville’s Barista Express (the semi-automatic espresso maker), and its milk frothing feature is LOUD. The obnoxious hissing sound has been a definite annoyance whenever I made a milk-based beverage before my significant other woke up in the morning. The Aeroccino, however, is so quiet that I forget it’s on. It is much quieter than the coffee machine itself. It the magnetic whisk spins the milk at a higher speed and in about a minute or so, I get a perfect cup of frothed milk.

Easy to use

Just like Nespresso capsule machines, the Aeroccinos are very simple to use. There isn’t any learning curve.

Size

Its compact size does not take a lot of countertop space, and it can be stored in a cabinet, if you prefer a clutter-free kitchen. Because it’s not heavy, storing in a cabinet is not as cumbersome as storing say, a toaster or a blender.

Cold and hot foam

The newer models of Aeroccinos – Aeroccino 3 and 4 – can make both cold and hot foam. I love iced lattes in summer, and I’ve been just adding cold milk and ice to shots of espresso. The Aeroccino frothers cold milk with luxurious foam. So the creamy, rich foam on iced drinks is a push of a button away.

Design and colors

The Aeroccino comes in Black, Cream, Red, and Stainless Steel (Aeroccino 4 only) to match any kitchen style. It matches nicely with the Nespresso machines, as well. The simple, cylindrical design is very modern and blends in with other kitchen appliances.

Cons

Capacity

Despite a tall container, the Aeroccino has a very little capacity. The bottom third of the container includes the motor (that is not visible), so the container is pretty shallow. In order to prevent foam overflowing, the milk max level is also lower. The amount is enough to make a nice cup of coffee, but for heavy drinkers who want larger volume, it might be a disadvantage.

Temperature

The milk is not scorching hot. It’s warm but not hot. It is a known issue for the Aeroccinos, and some people are annoyed by it.

I hope you find this pro/con list useful. The Aeroccinos do not have to be attached to the Nespresso machine, so even the ones without it can enjoy frothed milk (cold and hot). Let me know if you have any questions or comments!
