Organizing with Pottery Barn Baskets

I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way, but I get a strong urge to organize the mess that has accumulated over the holidays. Some things can be put away in a cabinet or a storage box because you don’t reach for them too often. But, it is the everyday things that clutter the house the most. They always end up sitting on a counter or couch. For those everyday knick-knacks, I use baskets. They look coherent and organized when grouped together. Accessing the contents is easier with baskets because many come with handles.

Pottery Barn has quality baskets that are tightly woven and durable. The baskets come in multiple styles and sizes to suit different needs. They fit perfectly in Pottery Barn’s furniture and shelving cubes. I do not have any Pottery Barn furniture; however, I still find these baskets useful and functional. They fit on most shelves, under beds, under console table,s and such.

A blogger once wrote that baskets are unnecessary and add clutter. However, I disagree. I think baskets are every organizer’s best friend. If you measure the space right and dedicate each basket for differently grouped items, you can have a more organized pantry, mudroom, entryway, and so on.

The Beachcomber Round Handled Basket does not have a lid but comes with a practical set of handles. I’ve seen similar round, handled baskets at bargain stores and Target. But honestly, they were either loosely woven or the designs weren’t as appealing as the Beachcomber. There are so many uses for these round baskets.

This round and lidded basket is ideal for an entryway or living room. It’s spacious to hold a few extra blankets or pairs of flip-flops. I like to leave the lidded basket next to our entryway bench to easily reach and stow away shoes. In summer, I keep a few pairs of flip-flops, and in winter a pair of Uggs.

The Beachcomber comes in a rectangular variety as well. These are very similar to the Seagrass Baskets from Restoration Hardware. The Beachcomber features wider handles and the width is uniform throughout. Besides the price difference, I prefer the Beachcomber because it’s easier to fit into a space. The Seagrass has a wider opening, and I think that’s a bit of a waste of space.

I love these under-bed baskets.

They offer precious extra storage space under beds for fresh sheets and pillowcases. Because they’re not covered, I wouldn’t store the sheets for a prolonged period of time. I usually keep an extra set of sheets/pillowcases that I’ll be using within a week. It works out fine for me because I change bedding every week.

Baskets are indispensable to our family.

They are much easier to reach, so I can store everyday essentials in style. These work great as toy bins (both for kids and pets!), as well. Unlike cabinets or storage chests, baskets are much easier to carry, so I can find various ways to utilize them.
