Nobody likes a poorly-lit room. In order to feel comfortable, I find layering light sources so important. Overhead lighting is not something you can change out or improve easily. It requires messing with electrical wires that I am nowhere familiar with. I use various floor lamps and table lamps throughout the house to light up darker corners, reading nooks, and desks. Even with overhead lighting, I love incorporating other light sources because it feels fuller, more welcoming, and is adjustable.

I love shopping and West Elm. The price is reasonable, and their Mid-Century Modern flair matches well with my current furniture. Their furniture and accessories are trendier than Pottery Barn which caters to more traditional tastes.
I recently purchased the Overarching Curvilinear Mid-Century Floor Lamp in black to place next to an armchair. Instead of a straight floor lamp, it is curved so I can enjoy the downright lighting that I need when reading. It’s much taller than regular task lighting I could find – like those pharmacy lamps. And its curved arm covers a larger area than a straight lamp.

The Curvilinear Floor Lamp comes in a 3-headed design as well, supported by a tripod base. Honestly, I thought it looked a bit messy with the 3 legs and 3 heads. It certainly will provide more lumens, though.

The on/off switch is attached to the cord. I lightly step on the switch instead of reaching down and pushing it with my hand. I personally prefer this switch over the twist type that’s attached to the lamp.

The base is heavy and sturdy to prevent the top from tipping over. Many overarching floor lamps are unfortunately top-heavy that are prone to losing balance. That was my biggest concern when I was at the store, but I was glad to see that the Curvilinear Lamp wasn’t one of those.

The lamp doesn’t have a diffuser. That wasn’t a deal breaker for me because I rarely look up when I’m sitting on a chair. And the arched angle is really wide, so unless you’re directly underneath the bulb and looking up, it shouldn’t blind you.
It’s such a great functional statement piece. It’s neutral enough to blend into many existing furniture; however, it is nothing short of boring or bland. The store didn’t have the lamp in stock, so I had to order it. But I’m sure I’ll love it. I can’t wait to receive it in the mail.
