I’ve been wanting this smart fragrance wall plug-in for so long, and I finally splurged. Social distancing and staying at home are seriously encouraging impulse buying and online shopping, haha. I bought Pura’s smart device and fragrance refills when Pura was running a promotion.

Pura’s smart home fragrance device is essentially a fragrance wall plug-in that requires 2 fragrance refills. And you will need to continuously purchase the refills if you want to enjoy the fragrance to last as each refill lasts about 15 days. The device costs $39 upfront and refills are available for purchase separately.

I was on the verge of purchasing this for a long time because the device alone is quite expensive, and considering how much $$ I need to set aside to enjoy the lasting fragrance, yes, I was skeptical. But when I saw Pura features Nest fragrances, I needed to get it because I adore Nest New York. I already own several of their products, including scented candles and diffusers, so I knew I was going to love this smart plug-in.

I purchased a device and 2 fragrance refills – Nest’s Bamboo (my all-time favorite scent from Nest) and Canvas from Apotheke.

Pura also offers a wide range of fragrance refills, so you can switch things up depending on your mood or seasonal change.
I have not heard of the brand Apotheke, but it’s a Brooklyn-based soap and candle company, established in 2012. According to the description, Canvas (the scent I got) is a crisp linen, white musk, and sweet lily of the valley mingling with a deep drop accord for a clean and refreshing scent. I love the cotton/canvas scent as it always reminds me of freshly laundered sheets on lazy Sundays, so I was excited to try it.

My new smart device and 2 fragrance refills came in one signature Pura box, all ready to go. Unlike traditional wall plug-ins, Pura’s device requires its app, hence the name “smart” device. The free Pura app allows you to switch between fragrances, set up mood light, change fragrance intensity and so much more.

The device is securely packaged in a cardboard box, and you’ll be given directions for each step of the installation. Honestly, setting it up is so straightforward that I can’t really call it “installation”, haha.

You’ll need to scan the QR code to register the device. Once that is done, scan the fragrance refills in the app to add them to your system. By adding the device and refills to your account, the app allows you to customize/control the device remotely.

Since it’s a “smart” device, it requires Wi-Fi connectivity. Pura recommends connecting the device to 2.4G than 5G as it provides a more stable connection and works better for connecting over a larger distance.

The device takes 2 refills, and you can switch between the fragrances. Using the app, you can set a schedule so that the device runs at a certain time of the day.

The cover of the device is magnetic but is easy to lift up whenever you need to change the fragrance refills. Each refill lasts 15 days (350 hours), so 2 refills should ideally give you a month. I signed up for Pura’s fragrance subscription as their subscription plan offered a significant discount. And this device is only compatible with the fragrance refills that Pura sells, so I really didn’t have any other choice. Maybe it’s going to be like Nespresso capsules – after a certain time, third-party manufacturers make refills. But until then, I’m signed up for the Pura subscription.

You can insert the fragrance refill like so. It snaps right in, and you know the refill’s properly inserted when you hear it clicks.

Pura also works as a night light, if you wish. You can change the color of the light, and boy you get endless color choices!

I love the customizable scheduling. I can turn the fragrance off when I’m not home with smart scheduling. This is probably one of my favorite features of Pura, along with its 10-intensity settings.
I keep the fragrance at intensity 5 or 6 when I’m just chilling or entertaining guests (I don’t want to overwhelm my guests with scents!). And I crank it up after I cook with my windows open. This way, I get proper ventilation while freshening up the house.

This works much better than all the other home fragrances I’ve tried over the years. It’s safer to use than scented candles, and the scents last much longer than reed diffusers.
