I’ve been a Sonicare user for over a decade, and I always insisted on purchasing genuine Philips brush heads. I don’t know if using the genuine heads had helped prolong the life of my Sonicare unit or not; however, it has been performing excellently without any issues in the past years. I highly, highly recommend the C3 Premium Plaque Control brush heads.

Because there are many Philips brush heads in the market, it can be confusing to shop for the ideal brush head that suits your needs. In the past, Philips used to label their heads in complicated serial numbers, making things much more confusing. Lately, however, Philips is using easy-to-understand labels. There are 4 types of brush heads, depending on your concerns – Plaque, Gum Health, Whitening, and Specialty. Plaque brush heads are labeled as C1, C2, and C3. Gum Health brush heads are labeled as G2 and G3. Whitening Brush Head is labeled as W3.

The C3 is the best brush head for combating plaque, specifically to target plaque removal, with flexible sides and BrushSync technology. The C3 brushes retail at $29.99/2 brushes. The C3 is also one of the newer brush heads in the Philips family, and the improvements are noticeable and worth the extra bucks (compared to C1 brushes, priced at $19.95/2 brushes).
What’s noticeably different about the C3 is the flexible rubbery sides that absorb excess pressure. The sides feel much softer than the regular brush heads, and they help protect gums in case of the brush bumps into them.

The C3 brush also features the BrushSync technology that automatically selects the optimal mode for ultimate results. The technology is only compatible with the BrushSync-enabled Sonicare toothbrush handle, so I wasn’t able to take advantage of this feature (I own one of the older models); however, it’s a neat feature to have.

Philips advertises that the C3 brush heads excel at removing plaque more than a manual toothbrush by 10 times, and it creates up to 4 times more surface contact for an effortless deep clean. The bristles adjust to your teeth and gums, so it reaches even the hard-to-reach crevices.

Philips also improved the packaging, as well. It used to be annoying ripping through hard plastic that wouldn’t cooperate, but now cutting the box horizontally following the dotted line makes it easy to unbox.
