If you feel like you were wasting toner because your cotton rounds were too absorbent, try these Japanese cotton pads.
The two main reasons I hated using cotton rounds from drugstore brands were 1) they absorbed too much toner, and 2) the fibers unraveled easily and stuck on my face. I travel frequently to Japan for business, and ever since I discovered Silcot, I’ve been buying them in bulk whenever I visited Japan. It’s that good. It’s exciting to learn that online retailers like Amazon carry Silcot cotton pads. Although Amazon prices are usually higher than what I pay in Japan, it’s well worth the premium when my trips get canceled.

These Japanese cotton pads are like magic. They “hold” toner and release it when pressed against my skin; hence, you virtually waste no toner.

Manufactured by Unicharm, each Silcot box contains 40 cotton pads. Each pad consists of 2 identical layers, and there is a perforation in between. I use the whole pad (2 layers) for removing makeup or soaking my skin with acne treatment (when I have flareups). And I break the pad apart in two for applying toners. It feels more like 80 pads than 40 because of the perforation.

Silcot is made of sponge-like material that doesn’t absorb liquid. It doesn’t have the plush cushion-like feeling of typical cotton pads, but it will release your toner right back out. I don’t recommend it for removing nail polish since the remover will seep out, defeating the purpose. However, it’s my go-to pad for any other beauty tasks.
