I was drawn to Simplehuman’s streamlined design when I first saw it at Bed Bath and Beyond many years ago. It was more than what I was willing to spend for a trash can, but I’m so glad that I made that purchase because it still looks brand new and hasn’t lost the design appeal, either.

I needed a small, lidded trash can for my office. A lid was a must because I certainly didn’t want the can to reveal nasty trash or odor (if there is any) to whoever walked into my office, including clients. Initially, I was thinking of getting a black, plastic can, but the Simplehuman can’s streamlined stainless steel body was a clear winner.

There are multiple can sizes available from more conventional 13-gallon cans to smaller cans that are perfect for bathrooms or offices. I bought the 4.5-liter small trash can, and I believe it is the smallest Simplehuman offers.

The inner bucket is removable, in case you need to clean it if the trash bag were to rip.

I really like Simplehuman’s trash liners (aka trash bags). For 13-gallon cans, you probably won’t need their liners that are more expensive – after all, these trash liners end up right back in the trash cans. But it’s really hard to find trash bags that fit smaller cans, and the Simplehuman liners fit like a glove.

Finding trash liners that fit your cans is easy as all liners are alphabet coded, and the corresponding alphabet can be found somewhere on the Simplehuman can, usually under the lid.

I wipe down the stainless steel body every now and then to keep the can looking clean and sleek. It looks sharp next to my desk, and the pedal still works fine.

Simplehuman is always coming up with new ideas to make ordinary household items smarter, more convenient, and more aesthetic. The new Sensor Trash Cans are voice-activated, getting one step closer to becoming a smarter gadget. I’m now eyeing the larger, sensor trash can for my kitchen.
