I bought this cutting board with the intent of using it as a kitchen decorative accessory. I needed some wooden elements to dress up the stovetop backsplash and give the kitchen a more organic and natural look.

I checked out two of my favorite stores, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, and I didn’t like what they had. The wooden boards are awfully heavy to render any usefulness. I have multiple ornate serving platters that are just sitting deep inside a cabinet because they’re too heavy or difficult to care for. When it comes to kitchen tools and serveware, functionality comes first.
And I randomly found this tray while shopping at Target. It is the perfect size (17.46” with handle x 12.99” diameter x .75” height) for my various serving needs. It’s not as big as pizza paddles, but I make lots of single-serving pizzas and it is ideal for serving them in style.

Or other various things. It has been my go-to serving platter, and everything looks delicious on it.

The board has two strips of darker wood accents that blend so well with my kitchen cabinetry. I have cream-colored cabinets with bronze hardware, and the wood strips on the board look so stylish.

For the size, it is surprisingly lightweight (2.66 lbs); therefore, I reach for it often. Because I can’t just toss a wooden piece in a dishwasher, I am very picky with wooden items. And I don’t mind hand-washing this board!

I don’t think I’ll use it as a cutting board because it’s so pretty as a décor and is made of ash wood. Unlike much stronger materials like cherry, maple, or walnut, ash is softer and more porous, therefore prone to more visible knife marks and potential bacteria growth. So if you’re looking for an actual cutting board, I’d look for boards made of stronger materials. And besides, for actual chopping and cutting, I personally prefer plain old rectangular boards so I’m okay with the ash board.

For the price, it is a fantastic decorative serving board. Compared to other pricier varieties, it is lightweight and so easy to care for.
