Tovolo is one of my favorite brands for kitchen tools and gadgets. Many of Tovolo tools are made of silicone, so if you like silicone tools, Tovolo is an excellent brand to check out. I’ve successfully made ice spheres for whisky, using Tovolo’s ice mold tool, and when my cooking tools were looking dingy and worn out, I decided to give Tovolo a try.

Depending on the retailer, Tovolo tools are available in different colors and shapes, some being exclusive to a particular retailer, for instance. I found the Flex Core Tool Set at Bloomingdale’s. I really liked the tool assortment in this set, consisting of a spatula, spoonula, flex turner, jar scraper, mini spatula, and mini spoonula. This seemed like a great set for any kind of stir-frying, light baking, and eggs.

What was so notable about these tools was that in each of the tool’s tip resides a Flex-Core, a nylon core that keeps the tip rigid and firm. If you use lower-grade silicone tools, then you’ll soon be frustrated with how flimsy the tips are. I like to break apart vegetables and frozen chunks of meat, and having a firmer tip that wouldn’t bend on me is exactly what I want.

Each tool was designed to maximize one’s cooking experience. The spatula, for example, features an asymmetrical head to allow maximum surface area.

And the flex turner is optimally designed for eggs, whether it is scrambled eggs or sunny side up. The back of the turner has bee-hive patterns to prevent the turner from sticking (or help lift the food more easily).

All the Flex-Core tools are dishwasher safe and heat safe up to 600 degrees. I was also glad to learn that the tools’ handles are also made of silicone, not plastic. I’ve learned that if the handles are plastic or wood, they tend to wear out faster than the silicone tips, forcing me to replace the tools. I’ve melted many plastic handles over the years, and wooden handles were susceptible to food staining and mold.
