There has been a heated debate over the use of a separate produce cleaner when washing vegetables and fruits. The no-cleaner advocates argue most produce in the market can be thoroughly cleansed using just water, and produce cleaners are a ruse to get customers to spend more money. I see a valid point there; however, I've been washing my veggies with baking soda and vinegar for as long as I could remember. My mom's been doing that, and probably my grandmother, too. If you eat a lot of organic produce, it's my personal opinion that it's better to use a separate produce wash (or baking soda and vinegar).
This is a great produce wash. I used to use Rebel Green Natural Fruit and Veggie Clean Spray, but my local store discontinued it and for some reason replaced it with Veggie Wash Natural Fruit & Vegetable Wash. Truthfully, I liked the Rebel Green’s bottle better, but I was out of choice, so I opted for this Veggie Wash.
Its price was comparable to Rebel Green, and Veggie Wash was available in larger value bottles, as well.
Veggie Wash works like other produce-washing solutions. You can either spray it directly onto hard-skinned produce like apples or dilute it in water for soaking and rinsing leafy and soft produce like spinach or strawberries.
I really like Veggie Wash and the way it washes fruits and vegetables. Our family members never peel off the apple skin, and Veggie Wash doesn’t leave any soapy taste or waxy residue.
I would say Rebel Green and Veggie Wash perform similarly, and both are excellent produce cleaners. I won’t be driving around to find Rebel Green if I find Veggie Wash nearby and vice versa.
The Veggie Wash removes surface contaminants without leaving any aftertaste. Apples are noticeably squeaky-cleaner compared to washing them under running water.
I use baking soda and vinegar when I'm out of produce cleaner - once you use it, you get so used to it and the convenience of it beats baking soda sprinkle and vinegar-diluted water.
