Designed by Hella Jongerius in 2010, Vitra’s Elephant Pad is nothing but extraordinary.
I’ve been eyeing this mouse pad for so long, mostly due to the price ($56.00 plus tax and shipping from www.vitra.com). I thought dropping over $50 for a mouse pad was quite crazy, but considering how many hours I spend in front of a computer, I was able to justify the price.
The Elephant Mouse Pad resembles Vitra’s quintessential Eames Elephant designed by Charles and Ray Eames. I would love to get the Elephant object as well. The mouse pad is securely packed in a cardboard envelope, and all genuine Vitra mouse pads have a hologram sticker. I highly suggest checking the envelope to make sure your mouse pad is a genuine Vitra Elephant Mouse Pad if you’re purchasing it from online resellers or dealers.
You can choose from 3 color options using Vitra’s Configuration tool. You can choose from Chocolate, Snow, and Black. I personally LOVE the snow color, which is a beautiful off-white color. Again, I couldn’t step out of my comfort zone and ended up getting the black, but the snow color is simply gorgeous.
The packaging comes with a Vitra original authorization mark - make sure to check this if you're purchasing one from 3rd party retailers.
The size is just right, in my opinion. The mouse pad measures around 25cm(W) x 20cm(H).
I was worried that it wouldn’t be as functional as round or rectangular mouse pads, but my mouse stays inside the pad just fine.
The grainy leather (embossed) is tougher on wear and tear, and it should repel dirt more efficiently than plain leather.
Crafted from two layers of Vitra’s fine sofa leather, this mouse pad is not only functional but packs quality. The stitching is beautiful, and you can feel quality craftsmanship when you brush your hand against this soft leather.
I cannot recommend this mouse pad enough. As long as you keep the mouse pad away from direct sunlight (since it’s leather), you will enjoy it for many years. I certainly am looking forward to it. It may be the best mouse pad on the market.
