My family and I are trying to eat healthier, and what I’ve realized is that it is much easier to eat junk if healthier choices are not readily available. For me, it is excruciatingly hard to wash and chop veggies, grill some chicken and cut some fresh tomatoes when you’re hungry. I’ve looked at various food storage containers and finally settled on the Glass Canning Jars from Weck. These are intended for canning; however, I use them to store ready-to-serve salad veggies.

I specifically wanted all glass containers (including the lid) because plastics easily trap detergent or food odor that transfer to veggies. These jars from Weck are made of glass – even the lids, hold generous servings of veggies and are stylish!

Weck is a German company that is known for durable and functional glass canning jars.

Weck offers various jars, including juice and canning jars, and they all feature the same locking mechanism.

The rubber gasket is placed in between the jar and the lid, and you secure them with stainless steel clamps like a sandwich. I don’t think they’re leak-proof, especially when the rubber gasket isn’t aligned right, but I believe they are decently airtight.

All pieces are dishwasher safe. The glass jar is microwave safe, as well.

The only issue I have with these jars is the locking mechanism. The rubber gasket eventually stretches out, rendering the lid useless. Fortunately, the rubber gasket and clamps are replaceable at an additional cost. Still, it would’ve been nicer if the gasket was stronger and more resilient.

Every 2-3 days, I fill the jars with freshly washed veggies. It is also great for portion control, if you’re trying to cut down some calories. The clear, transparent body allows my family members to find what they’re looking for easily. And we eat a lot more salad now.
