Someone who loves having houseplants but constantly forgets to water them
Budget:
Under $100 ideally
Requirements:
Low-maintenance and easy to set up
Works for indoor houseplants
Doesn’t require me to remember to do something every day
Reliable enough to use when traveling
Extra Details:
My plants don’t die because I overwater them — they die because I completely forget they exist for a week. 😅 I’m looking for something that takes the mental load out of watering. I don’t need a complicated smart-home setup; I just want something that keeps my plants alive when I inevitably forget about them.
What plant gadget have you bought that actually made watering noticeably less of a chore?
Blumat Classic Watering Stakes These are almost embarrassingly simple, but they’re the thing that finally stopped me from murdering plants through neglect. You stick the ceramic cone into the soil and run the little tube into a container of water, and the plant basically pulls water as the soil dries out. No app, batteries, or remembering to turn anything on. I originally bought them for vacations and ended up leaving them installed on the plants I’m worst about watering. Not the prettiest setup, but extremely effective.
My answer is actually two very boring things that work ridiculously well together.
Planta app + a cheap moisture meter
Planta reminds me which plants might need watering, and then I stick a $10 moisture meter into the soil before actually watering. The second part is important because I learned quickly that a reminder doesn’t necessarily mean the plant is thirsty. It takes maybe 30 seconds and has kept me from both forgetting plants and blindly overwatering them.
