Dyson Airwrap vs Shark FlexStyle

For Whom/What:

thick, shoulder-length hair

Extra Details:

Okay, I’ve finally caved and decided to invest in one of these viral hair tools — but I’m torn between the Dyson Airwrap and the Shark FlexStyle. Both promise salon-quality blowouts, fancy attachments, and less heat damage… but the price difference is wild. For those of you who’ve tried both (or at least one): 👉 Is the Dyson truly worth the $500+ price tag, or is the Shark basically the same thing for half the cost? 👉 How’s the performance, durability, ease of use, and actual styling results? 👉 Any pros/cons you wish you knew before buying?

Dyson girl here and I have zero regrets. I’ve had mine for over two years and it still feels like a salon at home every time I use it. My hair is fine and prone to heat damage, and the Airwrap legit leaves it soft and bouncy without the crispy ends. The auto-wrap barrel is smoother and more intuitive than Shark’s (or any other styling tools), at least for me. Expensive? Yeah. But if you’re planning to use it regularly, it's worth the investment.

I ended up selling my Airwrap and keeping the FlexStyle. Let’s start with the obvious — the FlexStyle is literally half the price of the Airwrap (around $300 vs. $600+). I was skeptical at first, but it holds its own — in fact, I’d argue the FlexStyle is actually better in some ways. The airflow is stronger, which means faster drying/styling time (especially helpful if you’ve got thick hair like me), and it still avoids high heat damage.

The FlexStyle dries my hair noticeably faster, and it’s been so much easier to travel with. It’s a bit louder than Dyson, but honestly, I’ll take the noise for the performance and price. My waves last just as long, and it doesn’t fry my ends like traditional tools. Unless you're deeply loyal to Dyson or you love that auto-curl gimmick, the Shark FlexStyle is the smarter buy. It gives you 90% of what the Airwrap does — sometimes more — at half the cost. Great performance, sleek design, and more budget-friendly. Honestly, I don’t feel like I downgraded at all.
