Herman Miller Embody vs Steelcase Gesture

Extra Details:

Which One Saves Your Spine? I’ve read all the specs and watched the YouTube deep dives, but tell me: which one truly helped your posture, eliminated back pain, and made 8-hour days at a desk bearable? If you’ve owned the Embody or the Gesture chair (or better yet, both), which one felt like it adapted to you vs needing to be adjusted constantly?

Embody all the way—for me, it was the first chair that actually corrected my posture while I worked, without me having to think about it. The pixelated back support responds to movement and feels like a high-end mattress for your spine. I’ve had mine for 4 years now, and even during 10-hour crunch weeks, I haven’t once had lower back tightness or that “slouchy fatigue.” It’s expensive, yes, but I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

The Gesture is amazing —especially for arm support. If you do a lot of video calls, multi-monitor setups, or tablet work, the 360 arm adjustability is top tier. But I found the seat pan a bit too firm for long days and the back support less dynamic. If you're built broader or sit in more “nontraditional” postures, Gesture may win. If you're after posture correction, long-term comfort, and a chair that disappears under you, go Embody.
