I tried both and silk absolutely felt cooler and nicer, but satin got me like 80% of the way there for WAY cheaper. The real difference was my hair stopped looking like I fought a raccoon overnight. I wake up with less tangling now which weirdly makes mornings calmer.
Hot sleeper here. Satin made me sweaty. Silk felt dramatically better temperature-wise. Expensive? Yes. Annoyingly worth it? Also yes. But personally I love cotton - I invest in high quality cotton pillowcases, and for a hot sleeper it's the best. I'd wash it over and over, and cotton pillowcases get softer after each wash.
