I never thought I’d be that person with a strong opinion on ketchup-flavored chips… but here we are. I tried Lay’s Ketchup Chips on a trip to Canada and was instantly hooked. They’re tangy, slightly sweet, and have this nostalgic vinegar-y punch that’s weirdly addictive. You either love ’em or hate ’em, and I fell hard into the first camp.

Then I found Ketchup Pringles at a specialty snack store and figured I’d compare. Verdict? Good, but not the same. They’re sweeter, less acidic, and more "ketchup candy" than ketchup chip. The texture’s classic Pringles (which I love), but the flavor doesn’t have the sharpness or zing that Lay’s has. If you want bold, Lay’s wins. If you want mellow and snackable, Pringles holds its own.

They’re both novelty, but Lay’s Ketchup Chips are the OG MVP. I always bring back a few bags whenever I’m in Canada, and every time someone tries them for the first time, it’s a moment.

If you’ve never tried Jagariko, you’re seriously missing out on one of Japan’s most genius snack inventions. They look like plain potato sticks, but they’ve got this satisfyingly dense crunch, like somewhere between a chip and a cracker.

My go-to is the Hokkaido Butter. But the Umami Seaweed, Original, and limited edition seasonal flavors like Sweet Potato or Yuzu Pepper are all worth hunting down. They come in these little cup containers with a foil lid, so they’re super portable too.

It’s one of those snacks you try once and suddenly want in every bag, box, or bento. I always throw a few into care packages or snack swaps — they’re low-key, but always get a “What were those??” reaction.
