Leica Q3 vs Sony A7C II–The Street Photographer’s Dilemma

Extra Details:

If you had to choose one compact camera to travel the world with, which one are you bringing: the Leica Q3 (luxury, fixed lens, intuitive shooting) or the Sony A7C II (mirrorless powerhouse, interchangeable lenses)? I'm torn between Leica’s simplicity and Sony’s flexibility—so I’m looking for hands-on experiences about image quality, workflow, battery life, and how each made you feel while shooting.

I own both—used them side-by-side on a month-long solo trip through Portugal and Morocco. I ended up reaching for the Leica Q3 90% of the time, and here’s why: it just makes you want to shoot. The build is perfection, the controls are tactile and satisfying, and the 28mm f/1.7 Summilux lens is ridiculously sharp with buttery bokeh. It’s a fixed lens, yeah, but that forced limitation actually made me more creative.

That said, the Sony A7C II is way more versatile—especially with something like the Tamron 28–75 f/2.8 or a tiny 35mm prime. It’s compact, has better autofocus (especially for fast-moving subjects), and the dynamic range is incredible. But it feels more tool than companion. If you're shooting events or want to do video too, Sony all day. But if you want to fall back in love with the feel of photography, the Q3 is your soulmate.
