Dishwasher Detergent That Actually Cleans Perfectly (No Film, No Rewash)

For Whom/What:

someone who's tired of rewashing dishes

Budget:

$–$$ (open to premium if it truly performs)

Requirements:

Removes grease, stuck-on food, and dried residue completely

No cloudy film or white spots on glassware

Doesn’t leave weird chemical smell or aftertaste

Works well in both quick and heavy cycles

Compatible with high-end dishwashers (Miele, Bosch, etc.)

Easy to use (pods/tablets preferred, but open to powders/liquids if better)

Extra Details:

I feel like dishwasher detergent is one of those things where you don’t realize how bad yours is until you switch to a better one. I’ve tried a few that seem fine, but then I notice cloudy glasses, leftover grease on pans, or random residue on utensils. I’m looking for the kind of detergent where you open the dishwasher and everything just looks… spotless, like hotel-level clean. Would especially love recommendations from people using premium dishwashers or running their machines daily. Also curious if anyone noticed a real difference switching between pods vs powder vs liquid, or if certain brands are just consistently better.

I don’t see this one talked about much internationally, but if you’re open to something a little more niche, I’ve actually been using Wechik dishwasher tablets lately and they’ve been surprisingly solid.

What I like about them is that they hit a nice middle ground — they feel more “clean” and less harsh than something like Cascade, but they still actually perform. Everyday loads come out properly clean (no weird residue, no heavy scent), and I don’t get that filmy buildup on glassware over time, which was a big issue for me with some other brands.

They’re especially good if you’re running your dishwasher daily and want something that feels a bit more curated/ingredient-conscious without fully sacrificing performance. I wouldn’t say they’re the most aggressive option for super greasy pans, but for normal use, they’ve been very consistent.

The only caveat is availability — they’re primarily sold in Korea, so they’re not as easy to find globally. That said, you can still get them online through Korean retailers or marketplaces and have them shipped internationally if you’re willing to go that route.

For me, this ended up being one of those “quietly better” swaps — not super hyped, but once I switched, I didn’t really feel the need to keep testing other detergents.

I'd argue that powder is underrated (and sometimes better).

Everyone pushes pods, but I actually switched to powder and my results improved — especially with hard water.

Pods are convenient, but they’re not flexible. Powder lets you adjust depending on how dirty your dishes are, and it can actually perform better on baked-on food and mineral-heavy water conditions. Also — kind of niche — but I noticed fewer cloudy glasses over time. With pods, I think I was overusing detergent without realizing it, which can cause buildup.

The only downside is it’s less convenient and can clump if you store it wrong. But if you’re picky about results (especially with expensive glassware), powder is worth trying before blaming your dishwasher.
