Another surprisingly good third place is a listening bar. These are becoming trendy again — basically bars built around high-end audio systems where people sit and listen to vinyl records together. Instead of loud music and shouting conversations, the vibe is quiet, intentional, and almost meditative. New niche social clubs centered on music listening have even started popping up in major cities because people want social spaces that feel more thoughtful and less chaotic.
It feels like the adult version of sitting in your room listening to records, but with other people who care about music.

For me the unexpected third place has been Topgolf. I’m not even a serious golfer, but it’s the perfect low-pressure place to decompress. After a long week, hitting a few balls while talking with friends or coworkers resets my mood in a way that sitting at home never does. There’s just enough activity to shake off stress, but it’s still social and relaxed. I’ve noticed a lot of adults end up treating it like a modern version of a bowling league — a place you show up regularly to unwind.
