The Best Household Purchase for People Who Hate Visible Clutter

For Whom/What:

people whose stress level rises slightly every time they see a charger, tissue box, or a stack of mail

Budget:

$20–1,000

Requirements:

Easy enough that family members will use it

Attractive enough for a design-conscious home

Can't simply move the mess into a giant junk drawer

Extra Details:

I’m not a minimalist in the sense that I want to own six objects. I actually own plenty of things. I just don't want to see most of them. My particular enemies are charging cables, paperwork, kids' miscellaneous objects, toiletries, countertop appliances, remotes, and all the tiny things that seem to reproduce on horizontal surfaces overnight. I'm looking for the purchase that had the biggest impact on your visual clutter: a charging drawer, concealed hamper, appliance garage, beautiful closed cabinet, storage bench, cable-management system, whatever. If you're the kind of person who wants the house to visually exhale when everything is put away, what purchase made the biggest difference?
